Surface Tensions - Lininal LandscapesThe frames attempt to capture is the notion of different modes of a waveform. A waveform is determined by energies acting within a certain medium. Here we see the shapes of a the cyclic pattern segmented into some of these modes. There is some analogy here with music.Together the paper surface, the cracking line and the wave frame are a synthesis of the ideas of time and process which act together to bring to existence landscapes both physical and mental.
The action of drawing a line on paper is immediately a division. Dividing light from darkness is our singular purpose. Something appears, or more accurately a part of something appears and another part disappears at the same moment. The crack is a division and also shows that it is a process captured in stillness. Something has appeared.A flash of consciousness is then akin to the flash of lightning over a landscape which illuminates for a brief moment the entire visible field.
We are actually talking about a particular point of a cycle (transition of energies) where other forces can enter and direct things to another higher cycle, or return them to the beginning again. ‘Surface Tension’ now means the tension between the superficial consciousness and a more awakened state. Our ordinary senses exist in a time state. That is their life, their existence is defined by this mode of experience. This sensory mode is characterised by disconnectedness, by divisions, by this and that, by ebb and flow.
