Immersion, emergence, negative space, proportion, geometry, planes and planets, mass, displacement.There is a critical factor here in the construction of the large panel that flows from the requirement of having each of the various spherical concave shapes penetrate the surface at a depth which defines their diameter at the surface. In the design drawing shown in the image the thickness of the panel is important. It is from this that the design of the physical object derives its symbolic meaning.Orbis - theme/concept

It was the actual physicality of this concept that inspired the initial idea back in 2021, however there was some questions as to the choice of materials. Originally conceived as a heavy timber block from which the semi-spherical depressions were carved there soon arrived variations to this idea which were somewhat easier to achieve and that may stimulate more complex ideas.Potentially a massive work, I have decided to properly explore the concept by producing a few smaller versions in various materials.Orbis - panel design
