DNA of an Extinction Event - Statement

This artwork evolved from an earlier ephemeral piece constructed from a long plastic ‘intestinal tract’ filled with every kind of detritus we consume and discard. This recent piece finds its symbolism at the end of the process of digestion and asks us to reflect on the nature of causes. What humanity excretes suggests what we’ve become. Can we predict the future by examining the entrails? Gaps in the code speak of incomplete processes, interrupted cycles, dead ends, but maybe also of abilities we’ve forgotten, deactivated, things that could be recovered.DNA represents something inherited, a framework to be sure, but something that should not define what we are. “The fault lies not in our stars, but in ourselves,” says Cassius.
